Social Media over recent years has become a very powerful tool for businesses, large and small alike.  Of course everybody knows about social media and a lot of us may use it on a regular basis, but how can this titan that is social media be wielded to turn people from the world wide web into potential customers?

Over the past year we have realised how important social media can be to a business, after a short discussion in the office an interesting conclusion became apparent, a good amount of our recent customers have come from our social media portals. This conclusion then lead onto another discussion which was, why have people been contacting us through our social media?

At first we talked about how we had alerted some customers to the fact that we had a Facebook and Twitter page and that subsequently, a few leads would follow. However it was noticeable after a period of time that the majority of these leads had come from other area’s and not just from referrals.  The main reason behind the increased interest became clear.

We had refined our Facebook and Twitter, to be more appealing, a new background perhaps, a picture or two is an obvious addition, but we delved deeper and the following are some helpful points that we have implemented to squeeze as much as we can out of the Social Media sponge.

•  If it’s your first time

Social Media is a great and cost effective way to give your business a face to the world. The average Facebook user spends 11 hours a month on Facebook, and you want some of their time. First things first, if you don’t have a Facebook or Twitter page make one and alert customers and family alike to your fresh new page. Learn how to use and like these websites, as with time and effort they can be great friends to your business.

• Building Brand Awareness

Currently there are 734 million people that use Facebook, There is no better place on the web to build your brand awareness, but of course you - like many other people would like a slice of that attention.  To build immediate brand awareness make sure you keep your social media pages fresh and current whether it be with new pictures, text, or even a video. Ideally you want to be posting 2-5 statuses and tweets on your facebook and twitter a day to keep everyone up to date on how your business is going.

• Links

Within the updates have been links, many of them, whether it be to our own website, other business or just helpful suggestions. Linking within text and pictures is a helpful way of pointing out important things to people that they may not immediately recognise. This increases the range your business has and drives traffic up for the other websites you have linked to.

Social media is an important tool, and if used properly can really increase your businesses awareness and profit, If you feel you would like some help moving forward into this exciting new world that is social media then please visit www.revolutioninc.co.uk or call us for more information.
